Australia is the place of choice for migrants

Welcome aboard! Yes!! The growing hub of IT is expanding as you read… Australia time and again has attracted Indians for jobs in IT sector. Statistics tell that a good portion of the Australian population consists of those with Indian ancestry.  In the census taken in Australia 2011, 390,894 people were identified with Indian ancestry including 295,362 who were born in India. Australia has always attracted more and more skilled labor from throughout the world but Indians have been influenced the most.  In the year 2011-12, Indians were one of the main immigrants to the country.

Statistics aside, but if we analyze the reason for this large attraction, one of the main factors that emerge is that the IT sector of Australia is booming with various opportunities. With high population in India and abundance of graduates coming out of colleges each year, it is now becoming difficult to find jobs in India. The growth in IT and technology has taken the world by a storm and graduates are interested to work in the fields of business analytics, IT, consulting etc… The good working environment, flexibility options available and above all the bucks paid for a job hence has been quiet successful in attracting the world.  Apart from the jobs in IT sector, the others fields such as education ( teachers, professors), research work, general labor, hospitality, urban and rural jobs have also now and then attracted people. This forms a 400000 Indian Australians marking their presence in the country.

The education system has also been quiet much successful in attracting students, both through their general education programme and courses run in universities and the various attractive exchange programmes. Talking about the same, currently more than 40,000 students are studying in Australian universities gaining a world class education. For those who do not have access to such programmes but want vocational training, Australia has taken initiative in this direction also. With various institutes, Australian education system has been delivering quality vocational courses in India.

But one question that keeps on going in one’s mind that is this progress was a day’s task? The answer to this is NO. Getting a citizenship in Australia was not always easy which had the contingent loss of no employment there. It was only after the year 1966 that the 15 years’ time for a non-European to get citizenship in Australia was reduced to 5 years. Thus came the period of immense growth. The period of 70’s then saw a large no.of doctors, engineers and teachers arriving in the country with their families. The 80’s was completely marked with the arrival of I.T professionals.

With arrival of Indians and settling in large numbers, they have been slowly but now have been accepted in Australia. There are a large number of cultural associations and organizations set up, nonetheless to say with the support of the country. This is followed by various schools including the language Hindi in their curriculum, daily presses giving publications in the language, ethnic newspapers etc…

Clearly, the world is becoming a smaller place and geographical boundaries are no more the barriers. We welcome every one with open arms, ready to embrace different cultures, the Southern Land setting an example for all…
